Drum

Our program views your children as competent individuals, capable of complex thinking, curious and rich in potential. We value and build on their strengths and abilities. We encourage them to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self-regulate. Our programming allows your children to realize their full potential by indulging their capabilities and curiosities. They can try new things and explore new ideas; all while learning and developing at their own pace.

Program Format

We follow Virginia's Milestones of Early Childhood Development.

Our physical design supports each child’s need to grow independent and self-reliant by allowing free choice of play items, and, except for routines, free use of these items (within limits).

Materials include objects that inspire representation and help children gain awareness of the world around them.

Tables, shelves, restrooms, etc. are all placed at the child’s level.

Children are guided to be self-reliant in routines such as dressing, toileting, handwashing, eating, and tidying up their play space.

Lunch happens in a family-style setting where children and staff can share conversations, and children have the chance to practice independence.

A teacher is available to assist when needed, but your child is encouraged to feel capable and responsible for the task at hand.

Toddlers

Two-year-olds are active learners who use their bodies and senses to explore the world around them. At JumpStart, our program nurtures this stage of rapid growth by guiding children as they develop emerging problem-solving skills and gain confidence in their independence.

Through singing, hands-on exploration, and a balance of group and individual activities, children are encouraged to express their creativity and energy. Each day includes a healthy morning and afternoon snack, as well as a nutritious lunch prepared on-site. Children also benefit from a two-hour nap or rest period to support healthy development.

Toilet training is introduced as part of the daily routine, and families receive a daily update sheet outlining each child’s toileting, eating, and learning experiences.

Our classrooms for two-year-old's are staffed with up to 3 teachers for a maximum of 15 children, ensuring low ratios and personalized care. Twice a day, children enjoy outdoor playtime on age-appropriate playground structures designed to support physical, emotional, and social growth.

Preschoolers

"Discovering the World Around Them"

Our Preschool Program engages children ages 3 and up with a variety of experiences designed to spark curiosity and prepare them for Kindergarten. In preschool, children feed their imaginations! Our Learning Centers are filled with tools that encourage children to explore, investigate, and discover their intelligence while building confidence in problem-solving and critical thinking.

Learning takes place in both small and large group settings, giving children the structure and social experiences they need to thrive. Classroom centers include:

  • The Reading Center for exploring stories and building language skills

  • The Block Center for creating models and structures

  • The Dramatic Play Area for role play, imagination, and real-world experiences

Children also enjoy nutritious morning and afternoon snacks, along with a healthy lunch prepared on-site. Daily outdoor play provides time for physical growth, social interaction, and fun on age-appropriate playground structures.

In preschool, children begin learning letter sounds and early literacy skills to prepare for school success. Our approach focuses on phonemic awareness—listening to and practicing the sounds of the English language—before introducing blending and segmenting words. This method helps build a strong foundation for reading and writing.

Not all children master these skills at the same pace. Extra practice, encouragement, and patience help each child progress with confidence. We encourage parents to follow their child’s lead at home, offering gentle support, praise, and motivation along the way.

At JumpStart, we value strong partnerships with families. Parents receive regular updates on their child’s academic growth, social skills, and overall development.

Before & After School Care

School Age up to 12

When we consider a before or after school program, we’re often motivated by problems with our own schedules. Ensuring your child is safe while you’re at work is certainly the top priority. However, make sure to consider the other benefits your child will reap as a result of their enrollment in our children’s programs.
